June 15th, 2013: Gardening Boxes at 440 Needham

Over the early part of June, ecoFredericton installed gardening boxes at 440 Needham Street, a well known low-income area of Fredericton.  This was our contribution to the Food Security group that emerged from the 2012 Great Gathering.  The boxes were offered, free of charge, to residents of 440 Needham and surrounding Gorham-owned buildings. 

January 15th, 2013: Partnership with CE5623 (Project Management)

A partnership has been formed with a group of civil engineering students in UNB's CE5623 (Project Management) class. This will provide the students with hands-on experience with project management in a real-world project, and it will provide ecoFredericton with a design for one of its eco-friendly houses for the first stage of its Sustainable Living Centre project. December 12th, 2012: Permaculture Design Graduate and Chemical Engineer

On December 12th, 2012, ecoFredericton gained the support of permaculture design graduate and chemical engineer Nils Rehmann.  He will be serving on our Advisory Panel as Permaculture Design Specialist and Chemistry / Chemical Engineering Expert.  Thank you, Nils!

November 30th, 2012: Democratic Education Expert for the Advisory Panel

We now have an expert on democratic education. Emery Hyslop-Margison is a professor in the Faculty of Education at UNB. He has a B.A. from UNB, an M.A. from Queen's, a M.Ed. from UNB, and a Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University. His areas of interest are philosophy of education, critical theory, democratic learning, politics and education, Marxism and education, and the philosophy of social science. He will be advising us on these matters as part of our Advisory Panel. Thank you, Emery!

November 27th, 2012: A March for a Ban on Fracking

On November 27th, ecoFredericton participated in the march for a ban on fracking.  It was quite well attended, considering the weather, and I believe we got our point across.  Whether or not it is considered is an entirely different matter.  The Alward goverment still steadfastly either refuses to acknowledge that most New Brunswickers advocate a moritorium on hydraulic fracturing or he maintains that this majority sentiment is inconsequential.

November 24th, 2012: Federal Green Party General Meeting

On November 24th, ecoFredericton was honoured to be givin the opprtunity to the address Fredericton-are Greens on our sustainable living education centre project.  We were very well received.  Thanks to Rhonda Connell for the invitation and all of the Fredericton-area Greens for being so hospitable!

November 23rd, 2012: The Great Gathering

On November 23rd, ecoFredericton attended day one of GFSI's (Greater Fredericton Social Innovation) The Great Gathering conference.  We participated in discussions on such topics as public transit, affordable housing, renewable energy, our own sustainable living education centre project, and youth entrepreneurship.  Much progress was made, as well as plans to work further on these issues.  Perhaps the most significant action to come of the conference was the committment for the...

November 23rd, 2012: Natural Building Expert Advisory Panel Position Filled

On November 22nd, ecoFredericton received confirmation that Leland Daugherty of Appleseed Homesteads will be working with ecoFredericton on the design and construction of the site's timber framed, straw bale insulated building, the Agora.  He joins the previously involved architect, Ann Scovil.  Thank you both for your support.

November 8th, 2012: Meeting with Dominic Cardy, Leader of Provincial NDP

On November 8th, 2012, ecoFredericton met with provincial NDP leader Dominic Cardy to inform him of our ecovillage project and seek his support.  He said that he thinks that our project is unique for the area, expansive, and a positive development for the area.  He had quite a bit of advice for us, especially with regard to apply for funding.  He pledged his support for the project, saying that he looks forward to being able to one day cite our finished project as example of th...

October 3rd, 2012: The Dueling Troubadours Karaoke Contest

On October 3rd, 2012, ecoFredericton hosted The Dueling Troubadours Karaoke Contest, a fundraiser for ecoFredericton's sustainable living education ecovillage.  The event was well attended, and we had approximately ten competitors.  Local musician Alexandar Adrian Von Alstyne MCed the contest.  Amanda Steeves (local karaoke host), Sean Burgess (local karaoke host), and Tonella Roy (local musician) judged the contest.  Anthony Gray, winning first place, walked away with a r...
